** Red tape lifted for small venues **
Venues with a capacity of less than 200 will no longer need a licence for live amplified music between 08:00 and 23:00.
Bookings are now closed for the AGM and Members meeting. Approximately 50 touring scheme and associate members will be at The Public West Bromwich for discussion and debate.
For some it will be a chance to catch up with old friends, for many it will be the first time they have been to an NRTF meeting.
We have some special guests Ed and Paul from China Plate will join us to talk about New Directions and how we follow up our conversations with showcased artists; Ivan Wadeson from Audiences Agency will join us to talk about the audience focus fund and data gathering and analysis and Chris Hodgkins from Jazz Services will be there to introduce us to the two successful jazz bands who will be available for rural touring thanks to the Jazz Services and NRTF partnership.
Contact Theatre will run a session to help with marketing the Country boys Struggle tour and to look at working with Young Promoters and there are plenty of other small group discussions taking place in the afternoon.
The public itself has an amazing exhibition of interactive digital art, which is well worth a visit. There will be tables and display space for those wishing to bring leaflets or other information.
Some people are going on to see EAT which is at The Roundhouse in Birmingham at 5.30 and some are staying over in Birmingham and going to the 8.00 performance. The performance takes place outside, in a court yard. I have been asked to advise you to wear warm clothes and sensible shoes!

NRTF Online Community Development Contract
PROJECT BRIEF – NRTF Online Community Development contract
The Online Community Development contract fits the following NRTF business plan objectives.
1. Provide the rural touring network with training, information and networking services
2. Enable innovative work, international partnerships and commissions
3. Promote better understanding of the value of rural and community touring through research and advocacy
This brief is to assist NRTF co-ordinator, Development Director and Board in achieving the Key Tasks listed below. The successful applicant will report to CAP Ltd who are based in York on behalf of the NRTF board.
The successful applicant will be a freelance person familiar with social networking and IT skills and knowledge of rural touring and the NRTF. They need to be out going and pro-active with good communication skills both written and verbal.
The applicant will be expected to work from home or their own office. The applicant will need to supply their own equipment to deliver the contract ie appropriate computer and software, access to phone etc.
NRTF is inviting applications to deliver this contract. There is a maximum budget of £4,000 inclusive of office overheads, telephone and internet expenses and VAT.
It will be necessary for the successful applicant to attend a minimum of two face to face meetings per year and your budget should reflect this.
It is anticipated that attendance at these two meetings will be included in the fee. Should further meetings be required by the NRTF board additional travel expenses can be claimed at the NRTF rate.
It is anticipated that the successful applicant will maintain regular contact with the NRTF office and development director by email and telephone as required but as a minimum will report monthly to the NRTF office and provide written quarterly reports for the NRTF board.
Applicants are requested to indicate how they would deliver this contract within this budget including time scale, daily rates and expenses. Applicants must be responsible for their own tax and NI.
This contract is initially for one year and can be terminated by either party with one months notice. The fee will be payable in 4 quarterly payments.
B. PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVES AND KEY TASKS
Principal objective 1
Provide the rural touring network with training, information and networking services
Key Task - Encourage members to use the site and get the most from the networking opportunities it offers. As a starting point this could include the following:
Produce “A beginner’s guide to getting the most from the NRTF website” and make it downloadable.
Check members’ entries to see that they are up to date and that all scheme people are listed.
Check associate members’ entries to see that they are up to date and aware of the potential that the site offers.
Develop NRTF social networking as appropriate and if relevant eg twitter, facebook, youtube etc.
Contact any new members to get them to update their entries and make them aware of potential.
Work with schemes and associate members to get latest stories and updates and encourage these to go on the new website.
Select a scheme or associate member story to profile on the home page.
Send out a weekly discussion update bulletin – to full members and associates.
Send out a monthly latest newsletter – to full members and associates.
Encourage strategic use of Twitter amongst the rural touring network.
Manage social networking as appropriate.
Encourage collection of images and films to promote rural touring- vimeo site
Principal objective 2
Enable innovative work, international partnerships and commissions
Key tasks: Encourage members to use the site and share examples of innovative work and good practice. As a starting point this could include the following:
Create an online showcase area. Contact Company associates and other companies and encourage them to give examples of their work on line via the website. Involve relevant board and other NRTF members to contribute to this activity.
Create an International news section of the site. Contact International partners IVOC members and encourage them to join NRTF as associates.
Principal objective 3
Promote better understanding of the value of rural and community touring through research and advocacy
Key tasks: Use the site and other social networking so the value of rural and community touring is widely disseminated.
Ensure that the NRTF’s communication strategy key messages are being highlighted by the website and ensure NRTF’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) is fit for purpose as an advocacy and information tool for rural touring. Check key messages are being disseminated via the website and develop new ways of ensuring this happens.
As a starting point this could include the following:
Create a Promoter news section of the site and encourage use.
Contact promoters and gather their stories. Create a new Promoter Voice section in the OUR WORK area – gather promoter stories, quotes, films from the schemes and put them in the section – highlight it in latest, home page banner, tweets etc. Encourage touring schemes to send the link to their promoters and encourage the promoters to join NRTF as associates. Involve relevant board and other NRTF members to contribute to this activity.
Work with Development Director to ensure that NRTF work is fully highlighted on the website:
If invited for interview we will ask you to contribute your own ideas to the above key tasks.
C. PROJECT SPECIFICATION
The NRTF website has been recently created by Supercool Design. It was launched in September 2012 www.ruraltouring.org NRTF has a you tube and twitter account but as yet no facebook account. The NRTF central office is in York.
The closing date for applications for this role is 6th November. Interview date and venue tbc. The contract will be awarded by the NRTF board ICT task group.
E. APPLICATION PROCESS
Applicants should respond to the brief indicating how they would approach this contract. How they would allocate time over the year and a budget outlining fees and expenses. Applicants should give details of their ICT knowledge and experience plus a CV and two references which may be contacted before shortlisting. Applicants should also indicate their knowledge and experience of rural touring and NRTF.
G Monitoring, Evaluation
The successful applicant will report monthly to NRTF HQ and will produce a quarterly written update for the NRTF board.
£4,000 inclusive of VAT and expenses.
