Satellite Sessions for Dance Artists

If you are a dance artist/producer and you want to know more about how to engage with Rural Touring (taking professional shows and projects to community and rural venues) and/or the opportunities offered by the Rural Touring Dance Initiative, these sessions are for you. We update this page with the latest dates and information, as they are confirmed.

Upcoming dates and venues:

One to one surgeries with a scheme manager available from 2-2:45pm

If you are a dance artist/producer and you want to know more about how to engage with Rural Touring (taking professional shows and projects to community and rural venues) and/or the opportunities offered by the Rural Touring Dance Initiative, this session is for you !

If you have a piece of dance you think could be adapted to tour to village halls or an idea you wish to develop for village halls then come along to find out how. The session will include:

  • An overview of Rural Touring and RTDI and the opportunities available via the RTDI’s recent Call Out and Commissions available
  • An introduction to how schemes operate and what to expect when presenting work in a rural touring context and what schemes are looking for from companies.
  • A discussion with a dance artist who has experience of Rural Touring.

You can make a day of it on 20 June by attending the following DanceXchange sessions at Birmingham International Dance Festival:

If you have a piece of dance you think could be adapted to tour to village halls or an idea you wish to develop for village halls this is the ideal opportunity to find out how.

Learn more about the 2 x 10k commissions available and the opportunities to be included in the national menu ( 1 commission specifically funded by Arts Council, Wales for a Welsh based artist).

Aim of the session
To give those attending:

  • a brief overview of the Rural Touring Dance Initiative and meet partners involved
  • an outline of the process leading up to the next national call out for companies
  • a brief introduction on rural touring, including outlining the joys and challenges of taking dance pieces into village halls and to answer any questions around this and the process
  • an opportunity to meet artists who have had experience of touring rurally
  • an opportunity for discussion around these themes
  • an opportunity to meet local scheme managers and schedule in one to one surgeries if helpful.

If you would like to book a short one to one surgery with a rural touring scheme manager at any of the briefings please indicate this when booking your place.
