Music for Miniatures CIO is a Registered Charity (Number 1184284) set up to provide opportunities for children and their families to experience high quality live music. Focussing predominantly (but not exclusively) on classical music, our performances are interactive, educational, and inspiring. Using only professional musicians ensures that children and adults experience a memorable musical event that will have lasting impact.
We believe that access to live music is incredibly important for all children of any age. Nurturing creativity and encouraging self expression as well as active listening have many proven benefits for the developing child, some will even be inspired to become the musicians of the future. As a cultural organisation, we are ambitious and committed to improving the quality, breadth and reach of our work. We aim to excite, inspire, delight, and enrich the lives of children, whatever their circumstances. We respond to the challenges of bringing live music to communities in ever changing situations and our flexible approach to performing means we are able to bring live music to most venues and communities.
We deliver our work through two main strands;
Music for Miniatures concerts aimed at the 0 - 4 age group and their families. Averaging audiences of 50-80 families at each performance, to date we have delivered over 150 interactive con- certs with a wide range of classical, folk, jazz and world music, and featuring orchestral instruments, choirs and ethnic instruments from around the world. These concerts are always short, engaging and inspiring for very young children.
Crescendo Concerts and Theatrical Chamber Music touring shows aimed at the 4 - 11 age group, their families and schools. Crescendo has given over 100 interactive performances, both in schools and in the community. Our schools performances are highly rated by teachers for their content and we introduce children to a diverse range of instruments. Our Theatrical Chamber Music touring shows include an original production of The Story of the Nutcracker in 2019 (received 5* reviews), Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes (also 5* reviews) and A Christmas Celebration in 2017 and 2018 which delighted audiences with yet more stunning reviews.
