Hard Graft is writer and theatre maker Mark Whiteley. He produced a few shows above pubs in Nottingham from 1997. He wrote and directed his first play in the 1999 at the Nottingham Playhouse and when asked what the company was called he came up with the name Hard Graft Theatre Company, because it sounded ‘proper’.
Toured charity shops, walked across the country with a show about giving (with no money, food or accommodation) 15 Christmas children's shows, Award winning 'Thick as Thieves', grass emigrated to Poland for 'Poles Apart'. And lots more innovative stories.
The company is small and responsive and there is no formal structure other than Mark generally oversees everything.
Hard Graft works with a number of associates and collaborators to produce the writing, people like designer Celia Perkins, Directors Keith Hukin and David Crowley or actor/writer Daniel Hoffmann-Gill.
We are currently working on a social distance tour of the country.
