Sabotage Theatre makes brave, visual plays. We are building a legacy of rural theatre which is grass roots, inclusive, contemporary, courageous and unique to its environment. The company was founded by Zoe Hinks after graduating from East 15 Acting School in 2008.
With environmental sustainability at our core, our puppets and costumes are made from recycled materials. Rurality plays a vital role in our organisation. We love nature and the countryside and this feeds into our work; in its creation and delivery. Over the last decade we have explored touring in alternative ways which have embraced the eccentricities and unique qualities of rural life. Sabotage has made 7 original plays and toured Kent, Sussex and Cornwall. Our mission throughout has been to inspire people off the beaten track to engage with bold, visual, contemporary theatre.
We have toured with horses, and performed in locations spanning from ancient forests and churches to a Victorian Asylum. In 2018-2019 Zoe collaborated with a charity called The Flying Seagull Project in Lebanon and Greece. She performed workshops and shows for refugee children in camps, anarchist squats and on the Palestinian border.
‘A company that not only entertains but also challenges audiences in a way that is hardly found these days.’ Andre Braga, Director Folkestone Puppetry Festival
