Membury is a remote village in the Easternmost corner of Devon, with about 500 residents. The lanes are narrow, the road is potholed, and there's no mobile phone signal. It's a beautiful tranquil place curiously populated largely by retired geologists.
The village hall was built in the 1980s. It has a hearing loop and decent lighting. We put a pantomime on every year during January which is usually written by a villager. All social activity is managed by the Membury Merrymakers which has a committee of about 6 overworked people.
I came from Hertfordshire in 2018. I used to volunteer at the Watfor Colosseum. Having decent entertainment was something that was missing when we arrived, and I was dragged along to a Carn to Cove menu party. I haven't looked back since.
