ViA is a charity that has been promoting the arts in southern Devon for over 25 years and offers a ‘menu’ of high-quality arts performances to a network of volunteer promoters who pick from the choice of events for their communities.

You will join the team at a key moment as we transition from an ACE-funded project led by Creative Kernow to a more autonomous organisation. We are interested in the distinctiveness of Devon and the opportunities for community-inspired activity to take ViA forward to the next stage of its development.

Live & Local: Marketing & Publicity Assistant

It is an exciting time to join Live & Local as the company continues working our range of partners, communities and stakeholders in the post COVID world. We support a network of over 300 voluntary organisations, across seven counties in the East and West Midlands, who choose and promote professional live performances and film screenings for their local community run venues.

The role is a key element within our team of 11 delivering sustainable, mutually beneficial relationships with communities and audiences through consultation, participation and collaboration. You will help deliver the audience engagement and marketing plans for all Live & Local programmes using a mix of traditional, digital and engagement marketing techniques including supporting our network of local promoters. You will work across all aspects of communications and engagement including social media, digital channels, media relations, publications and events and support the delivery of our communications plan.

The successful candidate will have some marketing and communications experience (in both traditional and digital media), creative flair with an attention to detail, an interest in arts engagement, a good teamworking ethos plus a knowledge of and passion for the performing arts and film.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, good literacy, numeracy and computer skills and an understanding of the power of arts and culture at both professional and grassroots, community and voluntary level.

Job Role:  Director of Rural Touring

Salary: Up to £29,000 pro-rata according to experience

Since Take Art started in 1987 we have run one of the UK’s most celebrated Rural Touring programmes and it still remains a cornerstone priority for the organisation. Working in partnership with a network of volunteer promoters across Somerset, the programme offers extraordinary and memorable arts experiences to thousands of people each year.  Rural Touring keeps villages alive and vibrant and provides an important link in the touring chain for many professional companies and artists.

We are seeking an experienced person to deliver the Rural Touring programme to Somerset communities; to advocate it as one of Take Art’s Specialisms, to develop partnerships with local volunteer promoters and make relationships with performers and companies to bring an ambitious and diverse range of work into the county.  This cross artform range of work might include theatre, music, dance, puppetry, film, spoken word etc and will involve local, national and international companies. Attending showcases and festivals in UK and further afield and pro-actively seeking innovative, diverse work, as well as supporting the volunteers by attending the local shows, is a key part of the role.

In addition, the postholder will be part of a senior management team within Take Art and will contribute to the development of the business plan and other aspects of the professional working environment of the organisation. As such, drive, vision, proven fundraising and project delivery experience are all essential criteria in determining the right person for this post.

Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival are seeking to appoint a Strategic and Creative Director with vision and imagination to lead the future development of Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival. We are looking for someone with:

The Creative Producer will develop Rural Arts’ performance programme at The Courthouse, establish an Artist Support programme, develop regional co-production relationships and support the ON Tour Manager.

Position: Project Manager – National Rural Touring Forum (NRTF)

Responsible to: Director, NRTF

Contract: 22.5 hours per week / 3 days a week

Role Context

The National Rural Touring Forum (NRTF) is looking for an experienced and skilled Project Manager to lead, coordinate and deliver on a new and exciting project while supporting the Director to deliver NRTF ambitions and outcomes. The principal responsibility of the postholder will be to manage the new ‘Libraries and Rural Touring Arts’, commencing in March 2020 and funded by Arts Council England. The role will need to be undertaken by someone with experience in working with artists and arts organisations, and the successful candidate will have excellent organisational, managerial, administrative and communications skills. They will need to be comfortable working with a broad range of people, organisations and relationships.

The Project Manager will be part of a small but ambitious team and be responsible to the NRTF Director, helping to deliver the wider visions of NRTF. The postholder will be required to bring a willingness to muck in and undertake a variety of tasks within the organisation, including supporting the work of the Communications Manager with the general membership and event coordination for the NRTF Conference and a range of festival panel talks.

About the ‘Libraries and Rural Touring Arts’ Project

Public libraries have an appetite to increase toured-in product but often lack support, skills, capacity, networks and confidence to achieve this. NRTF will audit the sector and work with Rural Touring Schemes and venues to learn from and expand on projects and activity that is already in place.

The primary outcomes include understanding the language of libraries and identifying what is needed in the sector to create appropriate resources and to provide developmental activities, including bursaries and an investment pot to encourage librarians into programming live arts and performance in their spaces.

‘Libraries and Rural Touring Arts’ – maximising the potential of our nation’s libraries

National Rural Touring Forum (NRTF) to support touring into Libraries in a new national project funded by Arts Council England.

New figures reveal almost 800 libraries have closed since 2010. National spending has dropped, as has visitor footfall and the number of paid librarians. Libraries also face numerous external challenges, such as the growth of e-books and people increasingly purchasing low-priced books online. Despite this, the 3,618 public libraries in the UK are still visited 233.1 million times annually and 77% of people believe that libraries are either essential or very important to their community (The Reading Agency 2018). Research by the Arts Council of England found that library attendance is positively associated with well-being and has even related to NHS savings of up to £27.5 annually. One way to address user numbers is to increase the opportunity to participate in touring and overcoming embedded sector obstacles of lack of budget, capacity, skills, knowledge and networks.

The Libraries and Rural Touring Arts project, managed by National Rural Touring Forum, is about understanding the challenges library services face in engaging the public and generating new audiences. Programming live art is one way to diversify users and engage the wider community.

Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival is the largest rural Performing Arts Festival in Scotland. It has been running a highly successful Festival each May since 1979.

In 2016 D&GAF embarked on a new venture and in addition to the Festival, it now works with a network of local promoters, venues and community groups to provide high quality performances all year round, under the banner Dumfries & Galloway Arts Live.

Arts Alive are looking for a mature performer with a playing age of 45+ who has experience in creating devised theatre work. The performer will work with our Director and Designer to shape the show.

The Performer will ideally have a good quality singing voice and play at least one musical instrument. They will have strong physical theatre skills and will be a confident and engaging storyteller. Some puppetry experience would also be beneficial.

Devising Dates; 14-16 Sept 2020 – in Shrewsbury

Rehearsal week; 5- 9 Oct 2020 – in Shrewsbury

Tour Dates; 12- 16 Oct, 19- 23 Oct 2020. Across venues in Shropshire. Technician for the show will be driving a van to get to the rural venues.

Arts Alive is the rural touring scheme for Shropshire and Herefordshire  and in partnership with MediaActive Projects , a creative media and moving image organisation was awarded Celebrating Age funding through Arts Council England. Following two years of artist led work with older people 55+, the creative material developed by participants will contribute to the shaping of the touring performance piece.

The performer will be accompanied by a technician on tour.

Fee; £3,600 -18 days work at £200 daily.

The employer for this post is Creative Kernow, Cornwall’s leading creative sector support organisation.

Creative Kernow runs a number of projects in Cornwall, with the key ones being Krowji, the creative workspace cluster in Redruth; the Carn to Cove rural touring scheme; the Cornwall 365 listings and cultural tourism project; the European funded Cultivator skills and business programme; Screen Cornwall and the FEAST community arts programme.

This post supports the Carn to Cove team to programme two seasons per year of live performances throughout southern Devon as part of the Locomotor project, delivered in partnership with Villages in Action.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Further development and widening of audiences in existing partner villages, and supporting new membership
  • Developing relationships with established and emerging artists who are active in the rural touring sector
  • Developing relationships with key arts organisations
  • Developing relationships with non-arts organisations to widen the role of the arts in rural communities and market and coastal towns in southern Devon (e.g. heritage, environmental, wellbeing agencies)
  • Supporting and developing  relationships with current funders
  • Identifying opportunities for additional funding streams, including Trusts & Foundations, commissioning opportunities
  • Supporting the development of other options as part of the wider Locomotor project (including digital innovations, Hub and Spoke model, Made in Devon)
  • Working with the Project Director and ViA Trustees to ensure long term sustainability of the Villages in Action scheme.

The post holder will need to work in Devon with scattered, mainly rural, communities and stakeholders, so needs to be able to travel independently.

Additional tasks

  • Work with line manager to identify and attend training, networking and events appropriate for the development of the role and the organisation.

Key conditions of work

Contract             Permanent contract, but please note that the funding for this project is expected to run until the end of August 2021

Pay        In the range £23,500 to £25,000 fte, dependent on skills and experience

Pensions            Creative Kernow will automatically enrol you into The People’s Pension if you are aged at least 22 but you are under State Pension age and you are earning more than £10,000 a year (£833 per month).

If you don’t meet these criteria on appointment but you do meet them at a later date, we will automatically enrol you into the scheme then.

If you are eligible to join, Creative Kernow will contribute 3% of your salary.  More details about the scheme are available on request.

Holidays             4 weeks a year rising to 5 weeks over 5 years plus bank holidays

Hours   15 hours per week (0.4 x 37.5 hours fte). There is scope for flexible working in consultation with your line manager. From time to time staff will be required to work unsociable hours. A TOIL system operates rather than payment of overtime.

ARTSREACH MARKETING OFFICER Artsreach is a charity that arranges tours of theatre, dance and music to rural communities across Dorset and is part of Arts Council England’s national portfolio.
