Oliver has toured widely with rural touring schemes with folky Mumbo-Jumbo and a cappella humourists Men in General and has just launched a cappella group The Pocket Choral Society. He just loves writing for and performing in the village hall environment. Mumbo-Jumbo are three rootsy/folky/blues multi instrumentalist singer songwriters who have toured their latest show 'No Hits Wonders' with Live & Local, Live Borders, Arts Out West, Highlights North, Creative Arts East, Take Art, Air in G, Rural Arts Wiltshire and Night Out Wales). Fully self contained with a sound and lighting technician, Oliver, Chris and Rich, write songs on everything from love and hard times through to baldness, old soldiers and the poor state of home care for the elderly in the UK - all delivered with self deprecating humour. They were commissioned to write a song for the VE Day 75 celebrations in May 2020 and recorded it featuring top folk singer Edwina Hayes, and have twice been shortlisted in the British Blues Awards for performance and songwriting. Promoters love us because we are flexible, easy to work with, self contained and eat ANYTHING! The new Pocket Choral Society hails from the fictional village of Pocket comes a new a cappella show designed for rural touring. Combining beautiful harmonies, original music, with much laughter and even improvised singing sessions, the Pocket Choral Society feature four experienced singers blending into one. Singing unamplified the quartet bring their own songs and new arrangements of some more well known numbers from songwriters like Lennon & McCartney, Flanders & Swann and Tom Waits in an intimate and relaxed way. This is very much a music show but, performed as four characters from the village of Pocket, the show also brings in a element of theatre through the characterisations that enable us to fill the show with moments of rural life. PROMOTER QUOTES FOR OLIVER'S SHOWS“Your show was a highlight of the year, as was meeting you all. Fantastic music” Live Borders Promoter, Scotland “Brilliant band - the guys are clearly a close group of friends who are very comfortable playing together, so they blend seamlessly, both musically and with their presentation. Hosting wise – they win our ‘most efficient band’ for being prompt, thoughtful, well organised and doing set-up/break down calmly in record time. I would recommend them.” Air in G Promoter, Gloucestershire “Their wit and tongue-in-cheek style is a delight for audiences.” Live and Local Rural Touring Scheme “If you are looking for an uplifting evening that combines excellent music, witty banter and audience participation, Mumbo Jumbo will not disappoint! From the moment the band came on stage with a big cheerful hello it was clear that this was going to be an enjoyable evening. Throughout the night they took the mood effortlessly from levity - ‘Bald Spot’- to poignancy - ‘Those Frail Few’ and back again.” Live and Local Promoter, Nottinghamshire "A brilliant evening! Lots of happy folk leaving our village hall last night. One of the things that made me especially happy last night is we had one lovely lady in the audience who has dementia. She had a ball! The smile on her face at the end was a picture!" Air in G Promoter, Gloucestershire
